The Role
As our Development Designer, you'll be responsible for:
- Creating innovative design solutions for high-profile retail, hospitality and corporate interior projects
- Producing CAD drawings and technical documentation from initial concept through to manufacturing stage
- Developing cost-effective designs that balance aesthetics with manufacturability
- Liaising with clients to understand their requirements and present design concepts confidently
- Working closely with manufacturing teams to ensure designs are buildable and meet quality standards
- Managing multiple projects simultaneously from quotation to final installation
- Creating prototypes and mock-ups for client approval
- Producing detailed drawing packages including assembly drawings and CNC programming files
- Collaborating across departments including estimating, project management and factory teams
This Development Designer position offers genuine variety, from designing bespoke reception desks for prestige corporate headquarters to creating innovative retail POS displays for national rollouts.
The Person
Essential requirements for this Development Designer role:
- Strong technical design skills with proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD or similar)
- Experience in a manufacturing environment, ideally joinery or interior fit-out
- Understanding of materials including timber, laminates, metals, plastics and solid surfaces
- Ability to create manufacturing-ready drawings and technical documentation
- Confident communicating with clients and presenting design concepts
- Commercial awareness to design within budget constraints
- Excellent organisational skills to manage multiple projects
- Collaborative approach and ability to work across different departments
- Problem-solving mindset with attention to detail
Desirable:
- Experience with 3D modelling software
- Knowledge of CNC programming and DXF file creation
- Understanding of shopfitting and installation processes
- Project management experience
