Our client is a long established designer and manufacturer of leading retail display products. They are looking for a Design Engineer to join their Design Team to provide cost-effective and detailed engineering solutions that meet with the briefed requirements, ensuring that they are delivered within cost, quality and time expectations. You will also be responsible for managing the development of prototypes through to manufacture stage and sign off.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- To create, maintain and control engineering drawings and specifications in line with the customer brief.
- To attend client meetings to take detailed design briefs, and relay relevant information to departments throughout the business.
- To attend internal resource project kick-off meetings.
- To manage the development and engineering of products from the Design & Engineering teams, whilst considering the roll out at manufacture stage.
- To identify, evaluate and action engineering opportunities for existing and new products / concepts.
- To provide technical support to both internal and external customers.
- To work closely with the development project managers throughout the prototype development process and brief suppliers and internal production resources on the manufacturing requirements, ensuring that they are in line with budget, quality and timelines.
- To produce detailed reports from customer / internal meetings regarding all actions and deadlines agreed.
- To liaise with the roll-out team and outline any specification changes or upgrades to equipment.
- To assist the layout planning team where possible.
- To liaise with the internal resources team to identify and specify most suitable manufacturing materials and processes to meet the combination of budget, timeline and quality requirements. In some cases, work with external supplier bases to perform the same task where project timelines require additional resource.
- To brief sub-contractors and internal resource of prototype requirements.
- To ensure that changes are recorded throughout the prototype process.
- Attend prototype review meetings with clients, document all changes from the review meeting and disseminate these changes through the organisation, ensuring that production details reflect these changes.
- To assist where required in the first off production parts inspections.
EDUCATION, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE:
- Degree in a relevant field.
- Computer literate – Microsoft Office.
- Knowledge of Solidworks is essential.
- Knowledge of PLM System, Sketch Up, Adobe Suite and AutoCAD is desirable.
- Strong technical design skills.
- Experience of working in an engineering environment with a good understanding of the design and construction process.
- Experience of successfully designing and developing products.
- Experience of building rapport and presenting ideas.
- Able to work with multiple clients and projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Collaborative team player.
- Able to work under pressure and use own initiative.
- A theoretical thinker with an ability to problem solve.
- Able to maintain awareness of current trends in design, manufacturing process and materials.
- Current driving licence.
- Must have the ability and willingness to travel both within Europe and overseas when necessary.
